30 km west of the capital Lisbon on the Atlantic coast of Portugal, Cascais is a pleasant place on the sea to relax and have fun.

This wealthy resort town of 214,000 people also has several good beaches to cool off in the summer, too. The municipality also includes the nearby town of Estoril.

The town had a long connection with the Portuguese monarchy who made it their summer residence since the days of King Luís I in the 1870s. The marina has hosted several sailing competitions including the America's Cup (2011).

Attractions include the Casa das Histórias Paula Rego, the Museu do Mar and the Museu Condes de Castro Guimaraes.

Sintra is 17 km north on the A16 (20 minutes). Cabo da Roca is 25 minutes northwest by car on the N247.

Both Cascais and Estoril can be reached by train from Cais do Sodre on the Cascais Line (Linha de Cascais) to Cascais Station at the end of the line.
