Figueira da Foz Map
Figueira da Foz is a large seaside resort on the Atlantic coast directly west of Coimbra.
The town is on the north bank of the Mondego River as it flows in to the sea. Figueira is around 200 km north of the capital Lisbon and approximately 120 km south of Porto.

Figueira is known for its long and very wide beaches: Praia da Claridade near the center of town and Praia de Buarcos to the north. South of the river are Praia de Cabedelo, Praia de Gala and the remote and often deserted and wild surfers' beach of Praia da Leirosa.
Places of interest in the town itself are the casino, the 19th century Câmara Municipal (Town Hall), the Relógio da Figueira Tower and the interesting Museu Municipal Santos Rocha.
Figueira da Foz Station has regional trains from Coimbra Station. These take about one hour and 15 minutes. There are also bus connections to Coimbra. The bus station in Figueira is adjacent to the train station. There are also trains from Leiria and buses from Aveiro up the coast.

There are literally hundreds of places to stay in Figueira from top class hotels to more budget guest houses and pensions. July, August and September are the peak seasons so book well in advance. Some recommendations are Eurostars Oasis Plaza, Mercure Figueira da Foz and Hotel Aviz.
