The city of Sintra, a short train ride north west of Lisbon, is situated in wooden hills. Sintra can be confusing to navigate its three separate villages of Estefania, Sintra-Vila and Sao Pedro de Sintra.
The main point of access is Sintra Station that connects to Rossio and Sete Rios stations in Lisbon. From the station it is 1.5 km to center of Sintra town or there is a bus.
The various palaces and museums of Sintra are spread out among the hills and a fair amount of walking is involved.
If you wish to stay in the area then the Chalet Relogio Guesthouse and the Casa da Pendoa are recommended.
Cabo da Roca is 18 km west of Sintra. A bus from Cascais runs to Cabo da Roca and then on to Sintra and back. There are buses making the 40 minute journey from Sintra between 9 am and 5 pm.
