The Silver Coast (Costa de Prata) stretches around 240 km on the Atlantic coast from Esmoriz south to Santa Cruz and Assenta in the municipality of Torres Vedras.
The main towns on the Silver Coast north to south are Aveiro, Figueira da Foz, Nazaré and Peniche.
After the Algarve, the area is the most popular place for expats moving to or retiring to Portugal.
The main attractions are the area's peace and tranquility. Though only around 100 km north from Lisbon, the Silver Coast gets far fewer visitors than the beaches of the Algarve, for example.
Places such as Praia do Pedrogão and Praia Osso da Baleia are rarely crowded even in the peak tourist season of July and August.
