Madeira International Airport
Cristiano Ronaldo Madeira International Airport aka Madeira Airport (Aeroporto da Madeira) or Funchal Airport (Aeroporto do Funchal) - (Tel: 351 291 520 700; airport code FNC) is Madeira's gateway to continental Portugal with frequent flights to Lisbon Airport and Porto Airport. From Faro Airport flights transfer in Lisbon to Madeira.

Madeira Airport also has scheduled and charter flights to many cities in Europe as well as to Ponta Delgada Airport in The Azores.
There are direct flights to Amsterdam, Berlin, Bristol, Brussels, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gran Canaria, Helsinki, Jersey, Katowice, London (Gatwick), Madrid, Manchester, Munich, Paris, Vilnius, Warsaw, Wroclaw and Zurich.
There are also local flights to the neighboring island of Porto Santo.
Airlines operating in and out of Madeira include British Airways, Lufthansa, Condor, Easyjet, TAP, transavia and Tui.
Madeira's airport requires special training for pilots landing there due to the very short final approach.
The airport was somewhat controversially renamed after Madeira's famous son, Cristiano Ronaldo in 2016.
Getting To & From Madeira Airport
Most of the major car hire companies operate from Madeira Airport including Sixt.
There is an Aerobus which departs from Arrivals towards Formosa Beach with stops at several major hotels along the way.
The full list of stops from the airport on the Aerobus are: Estrada Boa Nova, Rua Ribeiro João Gomes, Rua do Anadia, Avenida do Mar, Rua Dr. Brito Camara, São João, Avenida Calouste Gulbenkian, Avenida Infante, Estrada Monumental, Rua Passos Gouveia, Estrada Monumental and Praia Formosa.
The whole journey takes about 45 minutes and costs 5 Euros for adults (2020). There is free Wifi on board.
Several other buses including the numbers #113, #113RS, #20, #208, #53 and #78 run to and from the airport to Funchal and various destinations on the island.

Taxis arrive and depart outside Arrivals.
If you are driving from downtown Funchal to the airport, take the VR1 highway along the coast.
