Our Lady of Grace Cathedral (Sé Catedral de Santa Maria da Graça), Setúbal

Our Lady of Grace Cathedral (Sé Catedral de Santa Maria da Graça) is close to the Casa do Corpo in the historic center of Setúbal.
The church has served as a cathedral since 1975.


History
The church was originally built in the Roman-Gothic style in the 13th century. It was later rebuilt in the second half of the 16th century with the work completed between 1565 and 1570. The architect was probably António Rodrigues.
The main façade is flanked by two solid bell towers.
The interior has Tuscan columns with beautiful frescoes as well as a number of side chapels. The chancel has a magnificent gilt carved altarpiece. The side walls display panels of blue and white tiles from the 18th century, depicting scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary.

To get to Setúbal take a Fertagus Line from any of Roma-Areeiro, Entrecampos, Sete Rios or Campolide.
The church is a 10 minute walk from Setúbal Station or just a minute from Praça do Quebedo.
The Igreja de Sãnta Maria is close to the Casa de Bocage, and a short walk from the interesting Museu do Trabalho Michel Giacometti.
