Images of Portugal: Janelas Manuelinas (Manueline Windows), Viseu
The narrow, winding alleys of the old Jewish area (Antiga Judiaria) in Viseu contain some historic Manueline windows (Janelas Manuelinas), which are indicated by street signs, and this historic quarter of the city makes for pleasant strolling.
The windows are decorated with typical Manueline motifs such as ropes and armillary spheres inspired by the Age of Discovery and built during the reign of Dom Manuel I. The vault of Viseu Cathedral also has Manueline elements in its design.
