Igreja das Chagas, Cais do Sodré, Lisbon

The Igreja das Chagas is an historic church in the Cais do Sodré district of Lisbon.
History
The church dates originally from 1542 but was completely destroyed in the Lisbon Earthquake of 1755.
It was built for the sailors who manned the ships during the Age of Discovery, when Portuguese vessels set sail for Brazil, India and the Far East in a "golden age" of Portuguese history.
The church was rebuilt in a simpler, Pombaline style after the earthquake.
Of note in the interior is the painting on the stucco ceiling by Francisco de Figueiredo, the 18th century organ and the azulejos tile panels.
