The Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Assunção in Pedrógão Grande in the Leiria district of the Central region (Região Centro) of Portugal, dates originally from the 12th century.

Founded back in the medieval period, the church underwent major renovations in the 16th century, reflecting both Renaissance and Manueline architectural influences.

Its main façade features a prominent three-story bell tower, approximately 25 meters tall, built around 1553, with a ground-floor narthex (vestibule) supported by three round arches.

The interior follows a longitudinal plan consisting of three naves and four bays, characteristic of medieval mendicant church architecture.

The main chapel, or Capela-Mor, is decorated with 17th-century polychrome patterned azulejo tiles and features a rib-vaulted ceiling known as an abóbada polinervada. Its artistic highlights include an 18th-century white-and-gold carved wooden altarpiece, known as talha dourada, and a 16th-century polychrome stone image of the Holy Spirit (Espírito Santo).

The sacristy is distinguished by its Renaissance architectural style. Due to its historical, architectural, and artistic significance, the church was officially designated a National Monument by Decree No. 8331 on August 17, 1922.

The town of Pedrógão Grande is a quiet municipality with about 3,000 people in the main town and surrounding villages. It is known for its dramatic river valleys, historic schist villages, and some vast natural landscapes shaped by the Zêzere River and several large reservoirs. These are namely the Cabril and Bouçã reservoirs formed by huge dams which also produce hydroelectricity.

This remote area is not immune to tragedy, however, namely the deaths of over 60 people in the 2017 forest fires, substantial damage during the storms of 2026 (Storm Kristin) and the 2023 murder of 37-year-old Neil Sutcliffe by British compatriot Joshua Menkens (28), the organizer of the New Age Mad Hatter's Tea Party' festival held in the area and attended by Sutcliffe. According to investigators, Menkens, a plumber, suffered from psychosis during his actions.
