Museu de Arte Popular
Lisbon's Museu de Arte Popular is located very close to the Monument to the Discoveries in the Belem district of western Lisbon close to the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, Belem Tower and the Maritime Museum.
Exhibits
The Museu de Arte Popular, was inaugurated in 1948, following the reconstruction of the "Secção da Vida Popular" pavilion built for the 1940 Portuguese World Exhibition (Exposição do Mundo Português) of which the Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument to the Discoveries) was a major symbol.
The various rooms of the museum recreate the various regions of Portugal and were designed to display local folk art. The outside of the building is also designed in a rural Portuguese style.
The five rooms of the permanent exhibition that make up the museum is now closed to the public (the rooms representing Douro and Minho, Tras-os-Montes, Algarve, Beiras, Extremadura and Alentejo), and the collection of Museu de Arte Popular has been transferred to the Museu Nacional de Etnologia.
Nowadays visitors to the Museu de Arte Popular can observe the original murals in the reception, visit the museum shop will sells ceramics, woodwork, objects in cork, textiles and books and enjoy the excellent and reasonably priced (for expensive Belem) cafe.

Tram: #15 from Cais do Sodre; From Cascais or Cais do Sodre on the Cascais Line (Linha de Cascais) get out at Belém station; Ferry: From Porto Brandaõ on the south side of the River Tagus to Estação Fluvial de Belém or take the Linha Cascais train from Cais do Sodre to Belem Station.
Hours: Wednesday to Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm (last entry at 5.30 pm); Saturdays and Sundays, closed from 1 pm to 2 pm.
