The Igreja da Misericórdia de Messejana in the parish of Messejana near Aljustrel in the Alentejo region is a pleasing mix of architectural styles: Manueline, Mannerist, Baroque and Roccoco. It dates from 1570. The main altarpiece is a flamboyant masterpiece of gilded woodwork and there is a fine belltower.
