By October the heat of August and July is a distant memory. Autumn is here and the trees are beginning to shed their leaves.
The weather in Portugal in October sees cool even slightly chilly beginnings and ends to the day. There is a good chance of (often much-needed) rain in many parts of the country. Shop windows even begin to feature Christmas goods.

In Porto and Northern Portugal expect cooler and wetter conditions than in the south, with temperatures averaging 15-20°C (59-68°F). Rainfall increases significantly, and cloudy days are common, though some sunshine is still likely.
Look forward to pleasant autumn temperatures in central Portugal and Lisbon, averaging 18-23°C (64-73°F). Rain is more frequent than in summer, but there are still many warm, sunny days to enjoy, ideal for exploring the city and nearby attractions.
In October the Algarve remains mild and warm, with temperatures around 20-25°C (68-77°F), making it one of the driest regions in October. Although there's a slight chance of rain, it's generally sunny and ideal for outdoor activities and coastal visits.
For Madeira and theAzores the weather in October is warm and humid, with average temperatures between 19-25°C (66-77°F). October is one of the wetter months in these Atlantic islands, but showers are typically brief, and there are still long spells of sunshine, especially in Madeira.
Portugal's beaches are by now all but deserted but are still great places to stroll and enjoy the sea air.

Early October in Vila Franca de Xira sees the Feira de Outubro. There is bull-running and a series of bullfights in the Praça de Touros Palha Blanco.
October 12-13 sees the second large annual pilgrimage to Fatima to celebrate the 'Miracle of the Sun' of 1913.
The Feira de Santa Iria in Faro is the town's largest traditional festa held in the middle of the month.
Lagos celebrates its connection with Portugal's maritime past with the Festa dos Descobrimentos (Festival of the Discoveries) with processions (late October/early November) in period costume through the town's streets.
Late October to early November The National Gastronomic Festival in Santarem. The festival began in 1980 and each day of the event is dedicated to a region and its food culture.
The Festival da Francesinha in Porto pays homage to the city's signature Francesinha - a dish of bread, grilled steak, ham and cheese in a beer and tomato sauce, often topped with a fried egg.
October Music Festivals
MOGA Festival Caparica 2021 is a electronic music festival in Caparica. In 2021 it will be held from October 8-11. There are beach parties, biking, hiking, surfing, and yoga in addition to the music.

Festa D'Anaia is a smaller electro festival with many Portuguese artists held in Pena, 20 km northwest of Coimbra. In 2021 it will be held from October 15-17.
