History
Café Majestic first opened its doors in 1921 and quickly became a popular meeting place for the city's cultural and intellectual elite. It was designed in the Belle Époque style, characterized by its ornate and luxurious decor, with elements of Art Nouveau and Art Deco.
In more modern times, the Majestic is associated with author J.K. Rowling's rather unhappy stay in the city, along with the Livraria Lello bookshop.
No doubt some of the inspiration for the Harry Potter series of novels stems from the plaster ceiling, Flemish mirrors, leather upholstery, and varnished wood of the interior of the cafe.
The café's interior is a masterpiece of opulence, featuring intricately designed chandeliers, carved wooden mirrors, marble columns, and plush velvet seating. The decor reflects the grandeur and sophistication of the era in which it was established.
Café Majestic is known for its menu of coffee, pastries, and light meals. Visitors can enjoy a variety of coffee drinks, teas, and a selection of pastries, including traditional Portuguese treats like pastéis de nata (custard tarts).
