Rotunda de Entrecampos

Rotunda de Entrecampos, Lisbon

The Rotunda de Entrecampos (Praça de Entrecampos) is a busy traffic roundabout in the Entrecampos district of Lisbon.

It is north of Entrecampos Station on the both the CP and Fertagus lines and Entre Campos (spelled as two words) metro station on the Yellow Line (Linha Amarela) of the Lisbon metro.

The area is mainly commercial with many office buildings as well as several restaurants and hotels, including the recommended VIP Executive Entrecampos - Hotel & Conference.

The statue in the middle of the roundabout is dedicated to the Heroes of the Peninsular War (Monumento aos Heróis da Guerra Peninsular).

This was a conflict between combined Portuguese, Spanish and British armies against Napoleon's French forces. The war lasted from 1807-1814 and was one of the bloodiest in Portuguese history.

The following main roads radiate out from the roundabout: Campo Grande to the north on either side of Jardim Mário Soares; Avenida dos Estados Unidos da América to the east; Avenida da República to the south and Avenida das Forças Armadas to the west.
