Instituto Camões, Lisbon
The Instituto Camões is the Portuguese version of the Alliance Française, the British Council, Germany's Goethe-Institut, Italy's Società Dante Alighieri and Spain's Instituto Cervantes. The organization is named after one of Portugal's most famous writers, Luis de Camões.
The organization's aim is to promote the language and culture of Portugal. The Instituto Camões is also now responsible for the foreign aid dispensed by the government of Portugal.
Its headquarters are in Lisbon close to Pombal Square.
