Pastel de Nata Workshop by Pastelaria Batalha

Pastel de Nata Workshop by Pastelaria Batalha is the only cooking class in Lisbon where participants get to go "backstage" at a real working Portuguese bakery.
These workshops welcome foodie travelers who'd like to learn how to bake Lisbon's most popular sweet treat.
This class is open to all levels.

Guests get to go inside the kitchen of João's bakery, experiencing a real bakery environment, wearing the official uniform of Pastearia Batalha, and using the same ingredients and equipment professionals do. During this class, participants are taught how to cut and spread the previously made puff pastry in the specific way that gives custard tarts their characteristic flaky bottom. They make the cinnamon flavoured custard from scratch and they bake it all inside an industrial oven. The result are freshly baked authentic Portuguese Custard Tarts, just like the ones who'd find in the best bakeries around Lisbon.
During the class, guests not only learn the recipe for Pastel de Nata, they also chat about the history of pastries in Portugal, about what life as a baker is like, and any other details about local life that they may be interested in discussing.

After the custard tarts are baked, participants are invited to sit down in the charming coffee shop where the class takes place, to enjoy the fruits of their own work. The warm custard tarts are served with coffee, tea or typical sour cherry liqueur from Lisbon (aka Ginjinha). Guests also get to try other pastries baked at Pastelaria Batalha.
Pastel de Nata Workshop at Pastelaria Batalha can be booked via the official website pasteldenataworkshop.com.
Default classes happen in English, but private groups are also welcome, and can be entertained not only in English, but also in Spanish, French or Portuguese.
