Guimarães Station in Guimarães is the main point of rail access to this stunning UNESCO World Heritage city.
The station is a 20 minute walk north or short taxi ride of the main square at Largo do Toural.
Trains
The station in Guimarães of itself is a plain concrete rectangle of no great architectural interest.
Multiple daily trains from Guimarães Station run to Campanhã Station and then in five minutes to São Bento Station in Porto. These services take around one hour.
Local trains stop at Vizela, Lordelo, Vila das Aves, Santo Tirso, Lousado, Trofa, Sao Romao, Ermesinde and Rio Tinto. Change at Trofa for Viana do Castelo Station in Viana do Castelo.
For Braga, 23 km to the north west, there are no direct train connections only buses from Guimarães bus station in town.
There is a cafe/bar at the railway station, an ATM, public telephones and a waiting room.
There are taxis waiting outside the station with a taxi to Largo do Toural costing around 5-7 Euros depending on luggage.

Close to the station are several places of interest. These include the Zona de Couros (Leather Area), a district of traditional buildings that constituted the historic leather tanning area of the city. Also near by are the Palácio Vila Flor and Centro Cultural Vila Flor (CCVF), the Igeja de São Francisco as well as the Centro Ciência Viva (Live Science Centre).
