Viana do Castelo Station in Viana do Castelo is an historic building constructed in local granite between 1878 and 1882.
The station was designed by the local Porto-based architect Alfredo Soares.


The station is spacious and bright and includes some fine azulejos tiling and a traditional cafe/bar on one of its platforms.
Adjacent to the station is the modern shopping mall, Estaçao Viana. The mall has a cinema and branches of Bershka, C&A, a McDonald's and Pizza Hut as well as various other shops, cafes and restaurants.
Two daily trains from Viana do Castelo Station run north on the Minho Line along the coast to Vigo in Spain. Around 14 daily services run south to Campanhã Station and São Bento Station in Porto.
From Viana do Castelo Station trains run north to Vigo-Guixar in Spain. Journey time is 1 hour, 20 minutes. Trains stop at Valença.
More frequent trains run south from Viana do Castelo to Porto with local trains stopping at Areia-Darque, Darque, Alvaraes, Senhora das Neves, Barroselas, Durraes, Tamel, Barcelos, Nine, Famalicao, Trofa, Ermesinde and Campanha.
For Guimaraes, change at Trofes. For Braga change at Nine.
Journey time depends on the type of train with the fastest Internacional trains taking just over an hour with just a stop at Nine. Local trains can take up to 90-100 minutes with stops at every station.

There are not always taxis waiting outside the station but it is just a short walk south into the centre of the town and the turismo (Tourist Office).
The town's bus station is in the basement of Estaçao Viana. A number of bus companies (Avic/Rede Expressos, Minho, Linhares, Transdev etc) have ticket offices here. As well as local buses operated by Transcunha, there are buses to Braga, Fatima, Povoa de Varzim, Porto, Porto Airport, and Lisbon.
