The Romantic Museum of Quinta da Macieirinha (Museu Romântico) is an 18th century mansion located in the leafy splendor of the Jardim do Palácio de Cristal close to the Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis.

The aim of the Museu Romântico is to recreate the "Romanticism" of a wealthy residence from 19th century Porto.

The house was once the home of Carlos Alberto of Savoy, King of Sardinia and Prince of Piedmont who found exile in Porto and died here a sad and lonely figure in 1849. The "King's Room" is where Carlos Alberto received visitors and the "Canvases Room" has a number of paintings done in the Romantic style.

Other rooms include the "Dining Room" with a table laid for eight people complete with an English porcelain service, crystal glasses and silver cutlery from the period.

The "Dressing Room" contains a wardrobe made in England and engravings on the walls depicting King Carlos Alberto and his family. On a table is a typical leather traveling case of the time.

The elegant "Ballroom" recreates the atmosphere of the period with in a space dedicated to music, dance and conversation. Two pianos, several mirrors and various chairs and settees round out this beautiful room.

The "Billiard Room" has a billiard table and is decorated with four large panels painted on stucco representing various seaports with which Porto had commercial exchanges including London, Pennsylvania, Hamburg and Prince Christian Sound.

The children's bedroom is an English country house style nursery with wooden crib, dolls and children's toys from the 19th century.

Visitors are escorted around the property in a guided tour.
