Museu dos Biscainhos (Palácio dos Biscaínhos), Braga

The Palácio dos Biscaínhos in Braga dates originally from the 17th century but is defined architecturally by the 18th century.
The name comes from the Basque craftsmen who worked on the construction.

History
The residence had a succession of wealthy and aristocratic owners over the years. It was first built by Dr. Constantino Ribeiro do Lago (1619-1686) a wealthy, local politician and judge.
The house passed in the 1960's from the Viscount of Paço de Nespereira to the city of Braga.
The beautiful house and gardens now display a variety of treasures such as azulejos tiles, both European and Oriental porcelain, ceramics, period furniture, paintings and stucco ceilings.
The house has been open as a museum since 1978. Visitors view the house including the kitchen and stables as part of a tour with a guide. Information cards in various languages are provided in each room of the residence.
