The Escadinhas de São Cristóvão wind their way through the Mouraria district of Lisbon in this histroic, old part of the capital city.

They connect Martim Moniz and the Baixa at Rua da Madalena with Mouraria. The stairs take their name from the Igreja de São Cristóvão church at the top.

Since 2012 as part of a local initiative various pieces of street art have been added to the sides of several buildings on the stairs. These include a much Instagrammed fado mural by various artists working in a collective including Mário Belém, Hugo Makarov, Pedro Soares Neves, Nuno Saraiva, UAT, and Vanessa Teodoro.

If you wish to stay in the heart of this historic area try the homely rented apartment Escadinhas de São Cristovão.
