Elvas, located in southern Portugal east of Lisbon, has a statuesque archway in Largo de Santa Clara. The 16th century pillory in Elvas is located nearby as is the Renaissance-style Igreja das Domínicas (Igreja Nossa Senhora Da Consolação), formerly part of a Dominican convent founded in the 13th century. The church's octagonal shape is believed to be inspired by the Knights Templar.
