Street Art in Lagos

The Portuguese capital Lisbon is rightly celebrated for its striking street art and magnificent murals but many other towns and cities in Portugal have their own street art scene. Lagos in the Algarve is no exception.

The street art scene began in 2011 thanks to LAC (Laboratorio de Actividades Criativas, a local cultural organization working with the city authorities to promote the arts and culture in general in Lagos. Several artists from overseas were invited for residences to create their art in the town.

Murals

Not all the mural painted since 2011 still survive. Some have faded over time or the sites have been redeveloped. However, there were and are pieces by such artists as the Etam Cru duo from Poland (Bezt and Sainer), Sepe also from Poland, Daniel Eime, Diogo Machado, João Samina and Gonçalo "Mar" Ribeiro all from Portugal, French artist C215, and Spain's Borondo.
