Portugal's Attractions: Casa da Música
The modern Casa da Música, by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, is located in the Boavista district of Porto and is a new icon of the city.
Orchestras
The Casa da Música (House of Music) opened in 2005 and is home to three orchestras: the Orquestra Nacional do Porto, Orquestra Barroca and the Remix Ensemble. There are two main auditoriums and other spaces for workshops, a restaurant, two bars and shop.
The building was constructed on what was previously a holding yard for Porto's trams and took four years to complete.
The concrete space out front is now popular with skateboarders. There are one hour guided tours of the building in July and August in Portuguese and English.
