The exterior of the cathedral, Funchal, Madeira, Portugal

This is the Cathedral of Funchal, known for its beauty as well as its stunning Gothic architecture. This cathedral is one of the only buildings left in good condition from the Madeira colonization period. The interior walls of this building are skillfully carved and covered with gold.

The church is one of Madeira's most important architectural and historical landmarks, completed in 1514 during the early Portuguese colonial period. The cathedral's design features a blend of Gothic and Manueline styles, with a notable wooden ceiling crafted from local cedar wood.
