This is an image of the British Cemetery in Funchal, in Madeira, Portugal. The cemetery can date its origins from the year 1770. Before that those not of the Roman Catholic faith could not be buried on the island. Visitors interested in its history can take a look at the fascinating headstones and memorial plaques to be seen there. As well as British citizens, there are also a number of German Protestants buried here, too. The cemetery is administered by the nearby Holy Trinity Church.
