LOCATION

The Azoris Faial Garden is situated in a green area away from the Horta traffic. From this hotel one can view a marvellous panorama over the town, the bay, the Island of S.Jorge, and Pico mountain.

HISTORY

The Azoris Faial Garden is now owned by the Finançor Group and is part of the Azoris Hotels & Leisure chain.

The Finançor Group has hotels on Faial Island (Azoris Faial Garden Resort Hotel), Terceira Island (Azoris Angra Garden) and finally S. Miguel Island (Azoris Royal Garden).

The year of 1893 was the beginning of a new era of Trans-Atlantic communications. Horta become very important not only as a relay station but also as an interchange point for Trans-Atlantic messages sent by cable.

Among the different Cable Companies operating in Horta, one was the Western Union Telegraph Company. The cables that linked Horta to the main capitals of the world, required skilled personnel for their maintenance and operation as well as suitable technical facilities.

A series of buildings that came to change the town's appearance were therefore constructed on the street named after Consul Dabney. The Americans built an elegant mess complete with living, dining, and recreation facilities.

On September 18th 1924, a cable links Faial Island and New York, beginning a new era of Trans-Atlantic communications. With the decline of cables and the beginning of the regularly scheduled Trans-Atlantic passenger and mail service the houses of the American Company were used by staff as well as passengers.

Finally in 1973, a few local people, foreseeing a promising tourist future on Faial Island, and making good use of the buildings of the American Company, established the hotel that is, even now, the biggest hotel in Faial: the Azoris Faial Garden.
