Igreja Matriz de Esposende, Esposende, Portugal
Churches in Esposende, on the Atlantic Coast north of Porto and Póvoa de Varzim, include the Igreja Matriz de Esposende which dates originally from the 16th century.
Little remains from that time, however, and the church we see today was constructed largely in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The two bell towers are decorared with gargoyles and the tower on the south side houses a clock with a circular marble dial.
Inside the church building has three naves. The highlight is a beautiful image of Nossa Senhora dos Anjos, the patron saint of Esposende. There is also a fine azulejos tile panel depicting the baptism of Christ and a 27-pipe, pipe organ.
