Images of Portugal: Igreja da Misericórdia da Covilhã
The Igreja da Misericórdia da Covilhã in the Praça do Municipio in Covilhã dates originally from the 16th century. However, the building we see today is, for the most part, an 18th century reconstruction. It consists of a single nave and chancel as well as a bell tower which is most likely from the 17th century.
The exterior is plain and simple, although it features some baroque decorative elements. The interior is also quite sober, with few artistic details of interest, with the exception of the main altarpiece, created during the 17th century.
