Cordoaria Nacional, Lisbon
The Cordoaria Nacional (Fábrica Nacional de Cordoaria) is a National Monument located in western Lisbon, between Belem and Alcântara close to the River Tagus.
History
The Cordoaria Nacional was a manufacturing center for the Portuguese Navy dating from 1779. It produced the ropes, candles, flags and other naval supplies that equipped the ships of the Portuguese navy and parts of it were still in operation until the 1990's.

The 400 metre long building is 50 metres wide and this long, rectangular shape reflects the step-by-step manufacturing process as products were passed down a rudimentary production line.
Today, the building is open to the public and hosts various temporary exhibitions throughout the year at the Galeria do Torreão Nascente.
