Airports

Portugal has three main international airports in the capital, Lisbon, northern Porto and Faro on the Algarve. All are conveniently close to the cities they serve. Flying is also the only way to reach the Azores and Madeira, though ferries connect the islands of these two beautiful archipelagos.

City Travel

Lisbon Metro and Porto Metro make getting around the larger cities a breeze. For a more sedate journey in the country ride the tram or funicular in Lisbon or even a traditional moliceiro boat in Aveiro. City buses are cheap and clean and supplement the subways.

Getting Around

Portugal really is small enough to breakfast in Porto and lunch in Lisbon. The train and long-distance bus networks are both economical and reliable. To get to the more remote places driving is an option and a hire car will not break the bank with rentals some of the cheapest in Europe.
