Praia da Dona Ana Lagos

Lagos Beaches: Praia da Dona Ana

Praia da Dona Ana

Praia da Dona Ana, located about 2.5km south of the old town in Lagos is one of the resort's best and most popular beaches.

Praia da Dona Ana can be reached by local bus and the Lagos tourist train from Lagos town or takes about 30 minutes to walk along Avenue dos Descobrimentos past the Parque de Campismo Trindade (camp site). Taxi is another option and will cost around 10 Euros for the journey in to Lagos.

The beach is reached by a set of steep stairs from the headland above where theĀ Carvi Beach Hotel and a number of other accommodation and refreshment options are located. Nearby hotels to Praia Dona Ana include Dona Ana Garden, Villa Doris Suites and Big Chill Hostel.

The beach is well sheltered and excellent for swimming, though the clear water may be cool even in the height of summer. Praia da Dona Ana's statified, red and yellow sandstone rock formations receive visits throughout the day from sea kayaking tours from town.

There's a restaurant on the beach, as well as beach parasols and sun beds, for hire. Praia da Dona Ana is monitored by life guards in season. There is parking (about 100 places) including reserved spots for disabled drivers on the headland. These fill up quickly. The least crowded times on the beach are early in the morning and just before sunset when you are more than likely to have the sands to yourself.

Care should be taken with sheltering in the shade of the rock pillars on the beach as the stacks are liable for rock falls.

The next beach south from Praia da Dona Ana is Praia do Camilo.
