Lisbon Airport aka Portela Airport or Aeroporto de Lisboa - (Tel: 218 413 500; airport code LIS) is Portugal's main airport and most important international transport hub.
Lisbon Airport has scheduled flights to many places around the world and also connects to both Porto airport and Faro airport as well as Fuchal in Madeira and the islands of the Azores.
Portela Airport is located only 4km northeast of the center of Lisbon and there are long-term plans to build a new international airport at Alcochete 50km north of the capital.
Lisbon Airport opened in 1942 and has two terminals. The older Terminal 1 handles international flights and the newer Terminal 2 (which opened in 2007) operates domestic flights to Faro, Porto, Bragança, Vila Real, Madeira and the various islands of the Azores. There is a free shuttle bus between terminals 1 and 2.
Lisbon's airport handled over 13 million passengers in 2007 and is the main base for national carrier TAP as well as Portugalia.
International destinations from Lisbon Airport include Amsterdam, Barcelona, Birmingham, Bologna, Bordeaux, Boston, Brussels, Bucharest, Cairo, Casablanca, Cologne, Frankfurt, Geneva, Helsinki, Istanbul, London, Luanda, Madrid, Manchester, Montreal, Munich, Newark, Nice, Oslo, Paris, Prague, Stuttgart, Toronto, Toulouse, Vienna, Zurich and other airports.
From Lisbon Airport to downtown Lisbon take the AeroBus (#91) outside the main Arrivals exit to Marques Pombal, Avenida Liberdade, Restauradores, Rossio, Praca do Comercio and Cais do Sodre.
